ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 90-75 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.76 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and lion skin draped over his left arm and shoulder; in inner left field, monogram (of Aesillas?). HGC 6, -. Lukanc 1927. Very rare. Extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2011.

It has been suggested that the monogram on the reverse of this very rare issue is that of the Roman quaestor, Aesillas.
